Description
The law requires that all food handlers need to be trained according to their food handling work activities.
Should an employee achieve a Level 2 food safety qualification, which is suitable for the work they do, it will assist food business operators in proving that they have displayed due diligence and are therefore compliant in the eyes of the law.
This course is for all food handlers in retail, hospitality and food manufacturing, whether they are involved in the production or preparation of food.
Not only is food safety training a legal requirement, but, it can help businesses increase their food hygiene rating or increase their standing within the supply chain.
Level 2 Food Safety covers topics regarded by the Food Standards Agency as important, ensuring food handlers understand the need for hygienic practice.
Course Contents
Candidates will be taught a variety of topics, including potential contaminants, food safety legislation and responsibilities of employees in the workplace.

- The law governing food hygiene
- Food safety enforcement
- Microbiological hazards
- Food poisoning and its control
- Temperature controls
- Contamination hazards
- H.A.C.C.P. from purchase to service
- Spoilage and prevention

- Cleaning and disinfection
How long will it take?
The total qualification time for this qualification is 7 hours, all of which are recommended as guided learning hours.
Assessment and Certification
This qualification is assessed by multiple-choice examination. Learners must complete a 20 question multiple-choice exam, learners will need to achieve a mark of 66% overall to pass.
Successful candidates will receive their certificate, accredited by Highfield Qualifications, shortly after their training.
We recommend that candidates retake the course every 3 years to refresh their understanding and access any relevant updates.
