Level 1 Fire Safety Awareness

Course Duration

This Level 1 Fire Safety Awareness course is a half day classroom session, the minimum classroom contact time of 4 hours can be delivered in 1 day or can be completed over a maximum of 2 weeks ensuring that each session is a minimum of two hours.
The learner ratio for the qualification is a maximum of 16 learners to 1 trainer/assessor.

Fire Safety Awareness Course Syllabus

The Level 1 Fire Safety Awareness course, covers a range of learning areas including:

• Understand basic fire safety and what to do in the event of an emergency
• Understand the principles of fire risk control
• Understand the basics of practical fire safety

The learners will explore the main causes of fire, how it spreads, and what can be done to prevent fires from occurring. They will also learn about control measures that should be taken to minimise damage to people, premises and equipment, should a workplace fire occur.

The importance of fire safety in the workplace is underpinned by health and safety legislation that places a duty on employers to establish policies and procedures and ensure their employees receive appropriate training.
Successful candidates will be awarded a national level 1 qualification (Level 4 in Scotland). For further information on the certification, please see the Qualification Specification.

The Fire Safety Awareness qualification is an ideal introduction into fire safety awareness for employees and a strong basis for undertaking further fire safety training. The qualification provides learners with an understanding of the key principles of fire safety from cause to prevention and response, and is useful in the development of fire marshals.

Fire Safety Qualification Assessment

The qualification is assessed through written assessment. There is no grading of the assessment, learners will either pass or are referred.
