Course Duration

In the classroom, this course runs over 2 days. With the blended learning solution, the learner is able to undertake individual study and guided research, in preparation for three 2-hour virtual classroom sessions.

This 2-Day course goes into detail on a wide range of mental health conditions and the support and help provided by healthcare professionals. It covers the content of both the Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications but is aimed at supervisor level within the workplace.

The course is suitable for all persons within a workplace but is aimed at those who hold a supervisory/managerial level position enabling effective understanding and support is available, to employees. This course is also suitable for the team who have responsibility for implementing a positive mental health culture and responsibility for First Aid for Mental Health within an organisation.

A range of subjects are covered including:

  • What is First Aid for Mental Health?
  • Identifying mental health conditions
  • Providing advice and starting a conversation
  • Drugs and alcohol
  • First Aid for Mental Health action plan
  • First Aid for Mental Health in the workplace
  • A large range of Mental Health conditions covered in detail

Certification

Upon successful completion of the qualification assessment, Learners will be awarded the Ofqual regulated Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health (RQF)/Award in Leading First Aid in Mental Health at SCQF Level 6. This qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. It is strongly recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training. The learner will need to complete the full course again to re-qualify for a further three years.

Assessment

The qualification is assessed through video conferencing software by professional discussion with the trainer/assessor and practical
demonstration of the application of the first aid action plan for mental health.
Learners must successfully pass both parts of the assessment to be awarded the qualification. No external assessors are required.
