The importance of food safety in catering is underpinned by health and safety legislation that places a duty on employers to establish policies
and procedures and ensure their employees receive appropriate training. Successful candidates will be awarded a national Level 2 (Level 5 in Scotland) qualification which will provide an ideal platform to higher level training or career development.
Course Duration
The level 2 food safety qualification has 6 assigned guided learning hours (GLH) and 7 hours total qualification time (TQT). For the Distance Learning solution, some of the study can be carried out independently and unsupervised, in advance of the virtual classroom session. Virtual classroom sessions are 4 hours in length.
Course Contents
Candidates will be taught a variety of Food Hygiene and Food Safety topics.
These include potential contaminants, food safety legislation and responsibilities of employees in the workplace.

Assessment and Certification
Candidates will receive a course booklet to assist them throughout the course.
At the end of the course, candidates will undertake a one-one assessment with the tutor to test their understanding, via video conferencing software.
Successful candidates will receive an accredited certificate, shortly after their training.

Who needs level 2 food hygiene training?
The Food Standards Agency states that staff handling food need to have adequate training to handle food in a hygienic way.
Level 2 food safety training is aimed at anyone who has prolonged contact with food.
This can be in production, preparation or the sale of foodstuffs. Industries that need to consider level 2 food safety training include:
