Level 1 Health and Safety Course Duration
The Distance Learning Health and Safety in the Workplace course has 2 assigned guided learning hours (GLH) and 5 hours total qualification time (TQT). GLH indicates the number of contact hours that the learner will have with the trainer/assessor.
TQT includes GLH but considers unsupervised learning and is an estimate of how long the average learner will take to achieve the qualification.
It is beneficial for the learner to undertake additional independent learning for example by doing research on the internet, guidance and materials will be provided.
Course Syllabus
A range of subjects are covered including:
- Understanding the importance of health, safety and welfare standards in the workplace
- Knowing how hazards and risks are controlled in the workplace
- Being aware of the main causes and effects of poor health and safety at work
- Understanding how health and safety information is communicated in the workplace
Learners will be given a brief insight into legislation, understand their responsibilities and how they can assist their employer in compliance. They will learn why it is vital to follow workplace procedures and report any workplace hazards that come to their attention, as soon as possible. They will learn about the main causes of workplace accidents, and the relevant control measures, the main causes of work-related ill-health and preventative measures, and about the negative effects of accidents in the workplace.
Level 1 Health and Safety Assessment and Certification
The qualification is assessed by professional discussion with the Trainer/Assessor and evidenced by a recorded video call. The learner has a maximum of 60 minutes to complete the assessment. This recording will be kept following the FAA Data Protection Policy and will not be shared with any person except for quality assurance purposes by FAA, the FAA centre providing the training, and the regulatory bodies as required.
There is no grading of the assessment; learners pass or are referred
We recommend renewing the qualification every three years to stay up to date with the latest procedures and legislation. For more details see the Qualification Specification.
